Scott is the Deputy Director of the Serve Illinois Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service. There he supports the state's volunteerism efforts and assists with several of Illinois' AmeriCorps grants. Scott has been a member of the Serve Illinois Commission's staff since 2007.

Scott is an Eagle Scout and has been a member of the Boy Scouts of America movement for nearly 25 years. He served as a Lodge Chief and Section Vice Chief for the Order of the Arrow, "Scouting's National Honor Society." He was honored as a Vigil Member, the highest level an Arrowman can achieve, and received the Founder's Award for his unselfish service.
Scott has volunteered countless hours of his time to organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Model Illinois Government, St. Baldrick's, and the Animal Protective League. He is a recipient of the Presidentís Call to Service Award (4,000+ hours of service).
